"Non-GMO Project Verified" Label in Stores
Numerous Non-GMO Project verified brands are in the process of incorporating the "Non-GMO Project Verified" label onto packaging, with many eager to launch prior to Non-GMO Month in October. The first Nature's Path Organic Foods products bearing the label (see image) will appear in stores later this month. Other brands whose products either already bear the seal or will soon include Endangered Species, WholeSoy, Lundberg Family Farms, Straus Family Creamery, Earth Balance, Guayaki, RW Garcia, Stahlbush Island Farms, Stone-Buhr, Little Duck Organics, and Whole Foods 365.
The Project will be posting regular updates on Facebook and Twitter as more and more labeled products hit the shelves. Consumers everywhere are celebrating their right to have clearly labeled, independently verified Non-GMO choices!
The real story behind new consumer attitude survey on biotech foods
The International Food Information Council (IFIC) recently reported that, according to its new survey, consumers overwhelmingly support the use of food biotechnology when they consider the "potential benefits" for reducing the impact of food and food production on the environment. Say what?! Understanding who IFIC is may help explain how they got these results, and why the topic is phrased in such a biased and misleading way. According to Sourcewatch, IFIC is a "a public relations arm of the food, beverage and agricultural industries" with "a lot of pro-biotech and food industry propaganda on its website." Version 6 of the Non-GMO Project Standard Approved
The Non-GMO Project Standard Committee and Board of Directors recently approved version 6 of the Non-GMO Project Standard, which reflects feedback presented during the two spring 2010 public comment periods. Download a copy of the Standard here. The next public comment period will be from October 10th through November 10th, 2010.
This summer, the Project's Seed Advisory Committee will be undertaking a proposal for refining and reorganizing the seed-related portions of the Standard. If you are interested in participating in this effort, please contact us.
